How to prep properly before a spray tan

Life is stressful enough without having to worry about having a bad tan day. Whether you are going on a first date, out on the town with friends or just like a year round glow! By following these stepsI can guaranteeyou a flawless tan. IT’S ALL IN THE PREP!

Exfoliate ExfoliateExfoliate
Dry skin is not your friend when it comes to Spray Tanning.Dead skin cells can lie on your body from anywhere between 60-90 days, these dead skin cells will appear as flaky skin. If you have a spray tan treatment on skin that is flaking then the spray tan will come off as the dead skin cells fall off.

To prolong the life of your spray tan and ensure it goes on and remains even you must get rid of the dead skin cells by using a mild exfoliant in the shower24 hours prior to your spray tan appointment. Using a gentle exfoliator or scrub that is suitable for your skin will then reveal new fresh skin cells that provide a smooth base for the spray tan will stick to.

What hair?
Shave or wax at least 24 hours prior to your treatment, if you remove any unwanted hair nearer to the time of your treatment it may result in an uneven or dotty finish. Waxing is an ideal solution to removing unwanted hair when you know you are going to be getting a spray tan. Hair growth is much slower with waxing compared to shaving, as the hair is removed from the root it means the areas will remain smoother for longer. If you were to shave 24 hours prior to your treatment you would then need to shave within the next 5 days possibly which will start stripping some of the colour from your tan. Overall waxing is the best option to prolong the correct colour of your tan and keep it even.

People will be green with envy
I know we may not like the thought of walking around without any deodorant on but perfumes and deodorants have chemicals in them that can prevent spray tans from taking to the skin correctly. Your skin will be cleansed to remove any remaining residue as sometimes 48-hour deodorant may linger on the skin, a result of this can be the skin turning green as the spray tan goes on, this can be alarming HOWEVER when you rinse off after the waiting time of your spray tan the green will disappear.

All areas covered
Hair must be tied up and covered, I provide a hair net with all my spray tans to ensure no tan lands on your hair. This is very importantESPECIALLY if you have light coloured hair!

Bring loose clothing and flip flops to wear after your appointment that will allow your tan to dry. I would advise to opt for dark clothing as there may be some tan residue that will come off your skin and remain on your clothes! A dark baggy t-shirt and baggy tracksuit bottoms are ideal as you can feel a little tacky after you have been sprayed!

Nail polish or having your nails done prior to your appointment is a good idea asit will help protect your nail bed and cuticles from the tanning solutions. Barrier cream is provided prior to your treatment but nail polish acts as an extra layer of protection.

If you follow the prep advice above, you will be able to prolong your flawless tan for the maximum time!
